A prominent British painter, draftsman, and illustrator who worked in Canada for about six years (1871 – 1877), George Harlow White was born in London, England and died at the Charterhouse, London, England. While in Canada he is most frequently noted as living in Oro Township, Ontario; however, he travelled widely in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia. White was a member and exhibitor with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts* and the Ontario Society of Artists*. He also exhibited frequently with the Royal Academy* in London, England. His works are in numerous museum collections in Canada, England, and the U.S.A; they include the National Gallery of Canada, the British Museum, and the Huntington Art Museum (California). (2)(3)
